A Day of Raptors

We drove down to the ferry at Vesuvius ( not as dramatic as it sounds) for our trip to Duncan on Vancouver Island.  The kids all decided to coordinate their outfits by wearing the T-shirts that Claire designed - suitably illustrated with an Owl:

Our destination was the Raptor Park - a small wildlife park caring for birds of prey.  There were some magnificent birds and the flight show was small and intimate but fantastic.

 A Barn Owl

A Falcon - the fastest "animal" on the planet

  A Great Grey Owl

Not a great photo but I loved his expression - a Spectacled Owl

We had lunch at Just Jake's in Duncan; Andrew got new runners; I found a top and Claire found a dress, all before catching the 3.35pm ferry back to Salt Spring Island ( despite the school bus stopping all traffic at every stop).

We will have to round up all our belongings tonight - shoes and cords scattered around the house- as we move on to the next stage of our adventure - Alaska!
