Salt Spring Island Day 3

A difficult night of jet lagged sleep but managed to get some sleep dust at about 3am. Luckily sleeping in for this part of the trip is not a problem and a late breakfast is part of the routine now (yoghurt, muesli and home grown berries!). It is Lily and Amelia's last week of school before the holidays so they had been whisked away before we even got up.

A climb up Mount Erskine today.  This is a beautiful hike up a mountain covered in Douglas Fir trees and mossy rocks to a clear outlook at the top.

The angle of the trees give you some idea of the steepness.

On the way up there are fairy doors scattered off to the side of the path built into the rocks.

We saw several runner/walkers on the way - even the same Newfoundland we had seen yesterday at disc golf.  - It is a small island after all.

Rob was in his element with birds galore - this is a woodpecker.

The view at the top is worth it though.  From the summit you can see Vancouver Island north towards Mount Arrowsmith, Chemainus and Nanaimo and east across Trincomali Channel to Galiano Island and the Lower Mainland.  I have suggested to the others that if they wanted to see our cruise ship pass by, then they could come and watch it from here at about 5am on 10 July.  Funnily enough this wasn't taken to with much enthusiasm.

Again, this afternoon is being spent regenerating and trying to avoid an afternoon snooze before the stone age return home.

Best news of the day - Andrew's luggage has just arrived - so yay for comfortable clean undies!
