Leaving the Bears

Eight am breakfast of French toast, scrambled eggs and ( American ) sausage fed us well for our last foray into bear country.  I forgot to mention that there were bears near our front door when we woke up - the mother and two cubs and another further away.  So that makes a bear count of three before we had even left the room.

On the way out we saw the owners heading out for their flying lesson:

Cody collected us after breakfast and we headed out to the beach as low tide sees the bears hunting for clams in the low tide.  It is interesting to see the different techniques the bears use for getting the clams out - some just stomp and crush the shells; others use their claws in a more precise manner.

A group similar to ours, doing what we all did in the mud

The plane arrived too early ( on time) and we were all loaded on taking off with our final view of the bears.

We had left James' PJ's behind in Seward the other day - the hotel did not find them - so a visit to Fred Meyer for a replacement pair was in order.  We then headed back along the Stirling Highway back to Seward.  The drive is absolutely beautiful. The sun was out and around every turn a new mountain or glacier coming into view.

Its hard to get upset about traffic when the views are so distracting

We checked back into the Holiday Inn Express, Seward and took a stroll around the harbour before having dinner at Rays Seafood and Steak.
